About Environmentally Acquired Illness (EAI):

EAI is an umbrella term for conditions triggered or worsened by environmental exposures. Common forms include:

  • CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) — a multi-system, multi-symptom illness caused by exposure to water-damaged buildings and biotoxins, as defined by Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker.
  • MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) — a condition where mast cells release excessive mediators, often triggered by mold and chemical exposures.
  • MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) — heightened sensitivity to low-level chemical exposures, including VOCs, pesticides, and cleaning agents.

Disclaimer: AirWell consultations are provided for indoor environmental assessment and guidance purposes only. Our consultations do not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Clients with health concerns related to indoor air quality should consult a qualified physician or specialist.

For Further Reading: AirWell consultations are informed by current CIRS research and AIHA indoor air quality evaluation standards. Frequently Asked Questions About Indoor Air Consultations

What is an indoor environmental consultation?

An AirWell indoor environmental consultation is a virtual or phone session with a credentialed Indoor Environmental Professional (IEP) who reviews your building’s history, assessment findings, or symptoms to provide expert guidance on improving your indoor air quality and health outcomes.

How much does a consultation cost?

AirWell consultations are billed at $275 per hour, in 15-minute increments. A typical consultation lasts approximately 90 minutes.

What is the difference between an assessment and a consultation?

An AirWell assessment is an on-site inspection with physical sampling and laboratory analysis. A consultation is a virtual or phone session where our IEPs review assessment results — whether from AirWell or another company — and provide expert guidance and recommendations.

Can AirWell consult for patients with CIRS or other environmentally acquired illnesses?

Yes. AirWell has a specific specialization in consulting for patients with CIRS, Lyme disease, MCAS, MCS, and other forms of Environmentally Acquired Illness (EAI). Our IEPs provide tailored guidance to help identify and address the environmental sources of illness.

What states does AirWell serve for consultations?

Virtual and phone consultations are available to clients in Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas. Because consultations are conducted remotely, we can often accommodate other locations — contact us to inquire.

Do I need an on-site assessment before booking a consultation?

No. A consultation does not require a prior assessment. Many clients bring existing test results for interpretation, but you can also book a consultation to review building history, discuss symptoms, or determine whether a full on-site assessment is the right next step.

Can AirWell review an assessment done by another company?

Yes. Our IEPs regularly review assessments conducted by other inspectors or laboratories — including ERMI, HERTSMI-2, spore trap, and VOC reports. We provide clinical interpretation, a second opinion, and remediation guidance based on those findings.

What credentials do AirWell IEP consultants hold?

AirWell’s regional advisors collectively hold CMI (Certified Mold Inspector), CMRC (Certified Mold Remediation Contractor), AHERA Inspector, Licensed Mold Assessment Consultant (MAC — Texas TDLR), Lead Certified, and PMP designations. Several serve on the boards and standard-writing committees of ISEAI and ACAC. View full credentials →
